We called her Shopping Cart Sally, cause we didn't know her name
She pushed that cart all over town in the sunshine or the rain
And mom would say "son don't stare", as we would pass her by
I wondered if anyone cared if she lived or died

Shopping Cart Sally, city streets she roams
What is her story, where did she come from?

One day I didn't mind mama and I rode my bike to town
I hid behind a big oak tree, as strangers layed their offerings down
It was well after school, the day was at it's end
I watched her give the things she earned to some old poor wayward friend

Shopping Cart Sally, city streets she roams
What is her story, where did she come from?

Did she come down from heaven, from a ladder in the sky?
For when I recall the story, it made the angels cry

Shopping Cart Sally, I saw you're golden crown
And realized those rags you wore, were really an angel's gown
