Didn't have fortune or a front row seat in society
Never got to sing his favorite song on the Gran' Ol’ Opry
But he took his beat up guitar out most every night
An' sang it on the front porch, Lord knows, he sang it right

He sang, when we fall down in life, we best get up again
Many are the trials and tears we must overcome
Learn to take it easy, walk in freedom's light
An' keep on keepin’ on, till you get it right

Gran'pa had to work the farm, never got far in school
Could barely read an’ write, Lord knows, he learned the golden rule
Paid hard dues on coal mine crews when times were tough an’ lean
You know, down to red earth men like him are few an' far between

And he sang, when we fall down in life, we best get up again
Many are the trials and tears we must overcome
Learn to take it easy, walk in freedom's light
An' keep on keepin’ on, till you get it right

Gran'pa’s now a mega-star for all the universe to see
Where they don’t charge admission ‘an angels play along for free

Yeah, when we fall down in life, we best get up again
Many are the trials and tears we must overcome
Learn to take it easy, walk in freedom's light
An' keep on keepin’ on, till you get it right

Till we get it right, till we get it right, till we get it right

Someday in a peaceful valley where there’s no toil or night
Gonna sing a new song on the front porch, Lord knows, we’ll sing it right
