Chapter Seventy-Nine

GLOBAL VILLAGE IDIOT
[ a poem ]

Visa, MasterCard and the world confusion system of Planet Earth

Are all part of the plan, we’re gonna give you your money’s worth

We’ll plant a chip in you’re forehead or the hand of your right arm

And promise safety and security, how could we mean any harm?

Scanning your life history in a heartbeat and tracking wherever you go

We’ll make it easy to buy and sell and make you afraid to say “no”

I'll worship a mystic god of fortresses, a god of defense and war

You haven’t the smoggiest idea of what kind of future there is in store

Though blood runs a deep river rising, I will promise war will cease

For I will not deserve the kingdom, I’ll take it with cunning and with peace

I will fool you with dark wisdom, with lie’s deception and treason

And I will fool you with science, with psychology and with reason

The good shepherd has warned you, you best run without hesitation

When you see me standing proud in the abomination of desolation

For above all that is kind and good I will lift up my foolish heart

The kings and pawns of Planet Earth will help me play out my part ¹

You’ll cry peace but there will be no peace, you’ll have blood for a moon

You may think it’ll be a long time coming, but it’s coming down very soon

You’ll call for the rocks to bury you, a howling wail of hopeless forlorn

But no one will hear your bitter cry as you lament the day you were born

Now in my bed of evil dreams I wait for God in heaven to lift his thumb

Then there will be no peace on earth and no goodwill toward anyone

For my plans have no rhyme or reason, they have no sanity or border

But you will surely bow to my image, welcome to the New World Order

So go play your radios and watch your motion pictures of pretend

And try to imagine there is no God and no judgment day in the end

Cling to your goddess of education, your shallow whore of vain deceit

And ignore your homeless children who lie dying in your street

Sing “God bless America” on the Capitol steps in patriotic confusion

Pretend that the true God somehow honors your stain-glass delusion

And don’t pay me no regard, no---I’m only some dead prophet’s invention

Just the Global Village Idiot, but let there be no doubt of my intention ²

But in their place he shall honor a god of fortresses; and a god which his fathers did not know he shall honor with gold and silver, with precious stones and pleasant things. Thus he shall act against the strongest fortresses with a foreign god, which he shall acknowledge and vance its glory; and he shall cause them to rule over many, and divide the land for gain.” --Daniel 11:36-39.

2. “But news from the east and the north shall trouble him; therefore he shall go out with great fury to destroy and annihilate many. And he shall plant the tents of his palace between the seas and the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and no one will help him.” --Daniel 11:44-45.

NOTE OF SOME INTEREST: It appears that the New Testament term “Armageddon” is in reference to the Hebrew Har Megiddo (Hill of Megiddo). The ancient city of Megiddo, caught in the crossfire of various civilizations’ desire to gain economic trade advantage, has a long historical track record of bloody battle after bloody battle. Thus it appears that the New Testament author chose Hill of Megiddo as a symbol of the long-predicted (by many diverse cultures) culminating great battle of Good verses Evil. According to the Encyclopedia Britannica (2003 edition) in an article entitled “Time and Its Role in the History of Thought and Action”: It has become apparent that history is accelerating. . . with the progressive harnessing---within the last two centuries---of the titanic physical forces of inanimate nature. The approach of the climax foreseen intuitively by the prophets is being felt and feared, as a coming event. Its imminence is, today, not an article of faith but a datum of observation and experience.” “Armageddon” in the English language has become virtually synonymous with theorized cataclysmic disaster initiated by weapons of mass destruction (compare Ronald and His Ray-Gun).
